Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has commenced the construction of the 4.7-kilometer Utteh Palace Road in Benin City, fulfilling a campaign promise made to residents of the area.
The project, located in the Edo South Senatorial District, was officially flagged off on Monday during a ceremony attended by community leaders and government officials. Governor Okpebholo reiterated his commitment to infrastructural development as part of the “Renewed Hope” agenda championed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The governor emphasized the significance of the road, noting that its completion would connect Ikpoba-Okha and Uhunmwonde Local Government Areas, thereby enhancing accessibility and stimulating economic activities in the region.
“I was here about three months ago during my campaigns. At that time, the road was in a deplorable state, and I promised the community that when we came into government, we would fix it. Today, I am here to fulfill that promise,” Okpebholo said.
He added, “We are committed to keeping our word and ensuring that our people have a road they can be proud of. This project aligns with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda, and as his ‘children,’ we must deliver results that reflect his vision for development.”
The contractor, Risen Fan, pledged to deliver the project on schedule while adhering to high standards.
“We are committed to working with the state government and the host community to complete this project promptly and to specification. This initiative will pave the way for further innovations and investments in agriculture, ICT, education, and healthcare,” he said.
The Secretary of the Utteh community, Lucky Asemota, expressed gratitude to the Governor for addressing the longstanding issue.
“We are happy that the Governor remembered us and has kept his campaign promise. This road will greatly benefit our residents and businesses,” Asemota stated.
