Soldiers beat police inspector to death in Lagos 

A Soldiers from the Ojo Military Cantonment on Wednesday beat a police inspector, Monday Orube, to death in Lagos over rights to way.

According to reports, the soldiers who were over thirty in number reportedly kidnapped two police officers who were working as traffic warden to their barracks while the third officer managed to escape.

Wakadaily gathered that the soldiers were on their way to attend a training programme when the bus conveying them to the destination encountered mild traffic around the Trade Fair area of the Lagos Badagry Expressway.

The soldiers went down from their vehicle, and approach the police officer asking why he stopped their bus, however, the situation led to an argument that degenerated into a fight when one of the soldiers allegedly slapped one of the policemen, and abducted two of them into their bus and drove them to Ojo Cantonment.

Noting that “due to the severe torture, an Inspector of Police fainted and went into a comma, prompting the soldiers to rush then to Army Hospital where Inspector Monday Orukpe died.

The source said: “we have recovered the corpse and efforts are being made to release the second officer receiving treatment in their hospital the soldiers carted away the police rifles.”

Major Olaniyi Osoba, Acting Deputy Director 81 Division Public Relations stated on Friday. He said, “At the end of the investigation, anyone found culpable will be made to face the full wrath of the disciplinary provisions.

Osoba also condoled with the Ojo Police Division and the family of the late officer.
