Inibehe Effiong: Regains freedom after one month 

Nigerian human rights lawyer Inibehe Effiong, regained freedom one month after he was sent to prison by the Akwa Ibom Chief Judge, for alleged contempt.

Wakadaily reported that the The Akwa Ibom State Chief Judge, Ekaette Obot, has on Wednesday, 27 July 2022, sent human rights lawyer, Inibehe Effiong, to be remanded in prison custody for one month, for asking her to recuse herself from a libel suit filled against a fellow lawyer by the State Governor Udom Emmanuel.

The lawyer stepped out of the prison at around 8 a.m. to a waiting crowd of supporters around the prison premises.

Effiong was reportedly abused by prison officials who scraped his hair and beard, as seen on Friday, the lawyer’s beard had been shaved off.

Mr Effiong told reporters and supporters that, “I consider it an honour for me to be incarcerated for the truth.

Adding that “incarceration’ will strengthen his advocacy and fight for truth and justice in the country.  “This voice, till no end, is now louder.”
