In Borno State’s Damasak and Mobbar local government districts, terrorist hideouts were demolished and scores of terrorists were killed in airstrikes carried out by eight motorcyclists.
According to a statement released by Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet, the NAF’s Director of Public Relations and Information, the successful airstrikes took place on Tuesday, April 23, 2024.
According to Gabkwet, the terrorists attempted to strike MNJTF Sector 4 forces at Lada, a town that sits on the Niger Republic-Nigeria border, and then made their way into Nigeria.
“The fleeing terrorists who were on 8 motorcycles were later tracked to two locations situated at Zarri village, located about 28 km east of Damasak and Mala Alide in Mobbar LGA of Borno State,” Gabkwet said.
As stated by him, the terrorists were seen hunkering down in the Village, their motorcycles tucked under trees.
“Subsequently, airstrikes from the Air Component of OPHK and Nigerien Air Force, under the watchful eye of Niger’s Intelligence Surveillance Reconnaissance (ISR) aircraft, struck the terrorists’ locations.
“Real-time ISR footage later confirmed numerous terrorists were eliminated and several structures within the targeted areas destroyed,” he said.
The statement said collaborative efforts in the theatre have led to the reduction in terrorism and other forms of cross-border crimes perpetrated by criminals crossing the borders to evade justice.
