American popstar Lizzo who is a body positivity activist is been sued by former backup dancers for alleged weight shaming and sexual harassment.
As reported by The Guardian three of the singer’s former backup dancers; Arianna Davis, Crystal Williams, and Noelle Rodriguez alleges in a lawsuit that Lizzo created a hostile working environment through weight shaming, sexual, racial, and religious harassment.
They also stated that these incidents happened between 2021 and 2023, according to the lawsuit filed on Tuesday 1, August 2023.
They also alleged that the singer pressured staff at after parties into acts of sexual nature.
Her dancer also recounts an incident where Lizzo a well-known body positivity and self-love advocate had reprimanded a dancer for gaining weight recently before berating and firing the dancer for recording the meeting.
In the lawsuit filed in Los Angeles states that Lizzo allegedly pressured a dancer to touch a nude performer at a club in Amsterdam and also stated that she also subjected her dancers to an ‘excruciating’ 12-hour audition after falsely accusing them of being drunk on the job.
According to the lawsuit, Lizzo allegedly “began inviting cast members to take turns touching the nude performers, catching dildos launched from the performers’ vaginas, and eating bananas protruding from the performers’ vaginas” in an incident that happened in a club in Amsterdam earlier this year. She is also accused of pressuring Davis to touch one performer’s naked breasts and then provoking her when she declined.
The lawsuit does not specify any amount in damages.
Many social media users have expressed their disappointment towards Lizzo for the news.
