American singer and songwriter, Swae Lee has revealed that he is partly a Nigerian.
The one half of the hip hop duo, Rae Sremmurd, made this known via his Twitter account while replying to query on why he attached the Nigerian flag to a tweet announcing he was jumping on the South African genre, Amapiano wave.
The 30-years-old rapper said he will be experimenting the South African genre, Amapiano but added Nigerian flag to the tweet which angered South Africans.
“Wait till y’all hear Swae Lee on Amapiano,” Swae Lee wrote with a Nigerian flag emoji at the end.
The tweet didn’t sit well with some South Africans as they flooded his comment section to accused the singer of discrediting the origin of Amapiano.
Clarifying the post, Swae Lee said his initial tweet was misconstrued.
He wrote, “I never discredited nobody sorry y’all read it that way I never said anything about it’s origins in that tweet I was just letting my fans know I’m tapped in and been cooking some amapiano style songs salute to the history of amapiano and the first creators of it.
He added: “For the ones outraged about the flag, I put it because I’m partly Nigerian. I didn’t say anything about the creation of the genre y’all tweaking.
“Bigs up to the South Africans for creating this beautiful sh*t,” Khalif Malik Ibn Shaman Brown wrote.
