Arsenal meted out its usual punishment to north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur at the Emirates Stadium with goals by Thomas Partey, Gabriel Jesus and Granit Xhaka sealing a 3-1 win to keep it top of the Premier League on Saturday
“Harry Kane’s penalty tied the score at halftime after Thomas Partey’s long-range goal gave the game its first goal. After the break, Gabriel Jesus quickly gave Arsenal the lead back, and Granit Xhaka’s goal ultimately sealed the victory after Emerson Royal was dismissed.
Arsenal applied constant pressure, but unexpectedly, Totteham came close to taking the lead when Richarlison poked the ball goalward from a free kick and forced an outstanding reflex save from Aaron Ramsdale.
Before Partey unleashed a screamer from distance to curl the ball into the top corner and score the opening goal, Xhaka’s low drive fizzed agonisingly wide of Lloris’ far post down the other end.
After a decent start, Spurs were given a penalty just before the half-hour mark after Richarlison was tripped by Gabriel. Kane then stepped up to tie the score.
With a challenge that didn’t immediately appear to be a red, the Brazilian caught Martinelli high on the ankle, but VAR had no trouble upholding the decision, so he continued.
Moments later, Xhaka gave Arsenal an insurmountable lead with a close-range drive goal.
