In a statement, former president Muhammadu Buhari called on Nigerians to come together and support leaders at all levels, citing this time as a critical one for democracy.

The former President emphasized the significance of assisting leaders from local government officials to those at the national level as they strive to change the country’s development landscape in a Sallah message made accessible to newsmen on Wednesday by his spokeswoman, Garba Shehu.

Buhari congratulated fellow Muslims on successfully completing the 30-day Ramadan fast and the celebration of Eid, and he urged “all citizens to support our leaders from the local government level to the highest at the center in their efforts to transform the country.” Buhari spoke to journalists in Daura shortly after the Eid prayer on Wednesday morning.

“Support for our leaders is a vote for a better tomorrow.

“It is imperative that we stand united in safeguarding the sovereignty and integrity of our nation.”

He urged candidates for public office to always make sure that the transition from one government to the next goes smoothly and without inciting conflict within the community or impeding progress.

Buhari thanked the residents of Daura, his hometown, as well as the state at large for their cordial greeting.

After completing his tenure as president, he expressed his joy at being among his people.
