Chef of former Lagos State Governor, Ambode, remanded for alleged theft

Victor Abayomi, a chef for Akinwunmi Ambode, the former governor of Lagos State, was placed under detention by a Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

Abayomi is accused of stealing goods valued at millions of naira from the former governor’s Ikoyi home.

The defendant was placed on remand in the Ikoyi Correctional Center for a period of 30 days by Chief Magistrate Mr. Peter Nwaka, who issued the order.

Abayomi is being prosecuted on two charges that the State Security Service decided to pursue against him that involve theft and conspiracy.

Joshua Babalola, the prosecutor for the SSS, explained to the court that Abayomi and other fugitives collaborated to carry out the crimes at the former governor’s home.

He said that the defendant had stolen expensive items from his employer’s Ikoyi home, valued at millions of naira.

According to Babalola, the defendant fled to Molorundo Local Government Area in Osun State and was apprehended on March 7, 2024, at Old Garage.

The prosecution stated that the offenses violated Sections 287 and 411 of the Lagos State 2015 Criminal Law.

The case was adjourned until April 8, 2024, by Magistrate Nwaka, in order to allow for more research and fact-finding.
