An Upper Shari’a Court in Kano has ordered that Murja Kunya, a popular Kano TikTok skit maker, be remanded in a correctional facility over alleged defamation.
24-year-old was on Thursday arraigned on charges that border on defamation of character, vulgarity, public nuisance and breach of public peace.
The prosecution counsel, Lamido Sorondinki, told Upper Shari’a Court sitting in Kano that Murja Kunya on Jan.29, on her WhatsApp Status defamed the character of one Aisha Najamu and one Ashiru Mai-Wushirya, and shared it to the public.
The prosecutor alleged that the defendant made an injurious statement against the complaints and threatened them in Hausa language.
After all the charges were read to the accused by the prosecuting counsel, Lamido Sorondinki, she pleaded not guilty.
The Judge, Abdullahi Halliru, ordered that the accused person be remanded in prison custody and subsequently adjourned the case till February 16 for ruling on the bail application.
