Early Life & Education
Damon Wayans was born in New York, United States, on September 4th, 1960. He is the son of Elvira Alethia, a homemaker, singer, and social worker mother; his father, Howell Wayans, was a grocery manager.
He has five sisters named Elvira Wayans, Vonnie Wayans, Nadia Wayans, Kim Wayans, and Diedre Wayans, and four brothers named Keenen Ivory Wayans, Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, and Dwayne Wayans.
Growing up was tough for Damon Wayans because he was born with clubfoot. Damon Wayans attended Murry Bergtraum High School.
Career
In 1982, Damon Wayans started performing stand-up comedy. His first acting role was in a cameo as an effeminate hotel employee in Eddie Murphy‘s 1984 picture Beverly Hills Cop.
He was a featured performer on Saturday Night Live from 1985 to 1986. Still, He was dismissed after only eleven episodes for improvising during a live sketch and portraying his role as a flamboyant gay cop rather than a straight cop.
Damon Wayans later claimed he wanted to be fired because he didn’t have enough creative freedom or screen time. Lorne Michaels did not want him to start drawing comparisons to Eddie Murphy. During the 1980s, he also played a comic role on the syndicated television series titled Solid Gold.
Damon Wayans co-created the Fox sketch comedy series titled In Living Color with his brother Keenen Ivory Wayans, which featured a predominantly African-American ensemble. The show first aired in April of 1990. Although Damon Wayans left the show in 1992 to pursue a film career, the show aired until May 1994.
