Early Life & Education
Di’ja was on 14th August 1989 to a Sierra Leonean father Amb Joseph Blell and a Nigerian mother Asma’u Blell.
She was raised and lived in Nigeria, Sierra Leone, the United States, and Canada.
Di’ja is a multi-linguist as she speaks the Hausa language fluently with her mother being from the Northern part of Nigeria and Krio language, a Sierra Leonian local dialect.
Di’ja completed her primary and secondary education then she went further to earn two degrees from different universities in the United States of America.
She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Biology and also in psychology.
Career
Di’ja started her career after she graduated from school and her passion for music has some connection with her family as she stated that her mom influenced her path through various CD collections around her during childhood.
With influence from music stars such as Bob Marly, Tupac Shakur, Tracy Champman, Mia, and The Everly brother, she started her music carer in 2008 and rose to fame in 2014 with her hit single “Awww” after joining Mavin records.
Her first official single under Mavin records was “Yaro” which is an up-tempo love tune. The song infuses both Hausa and Krio languages which were meant to acknowledge her Nigerian and Sierra Leone roots.
Di’ja’s other songs before joining Mavin records include; “Dan’Iska (Rudebwoy)”, “Hold on (Ba Damuwa)”, and “How can we be friends”.
Ever since she came to the limelight, she has also been featured in the Mavin collaboration singles like; “Dorobucci”, “Adaobi”, “Jantamata”, “Looku Looku”, which stars the likes of Don Jazzy, D’Prince, Tiwa Savage, Dr. Sid, Tiwa Savage, Reekado Banks, and Korede Bello.
