On Sunday, the Edo State Network Officials and members of the public works volunteers, demolished the security post in front of the residence of the former deputy governor, Philip Shaibu, in the Government Reservation Area, in Benin.
Following the allegation of leaking official secrets and perjury, shaibu, was impeached by the Edo State House of Assembly last Monday, which was concluded by the seven-man panel report led by Justice Daniel Okungbowa, the Chief judge of the State.
Godwin Obaseki, the Edo State Governor, had replaced the impeached deputy governor with Marvelous Omobayo.
Shaibu had since rejected his impeachment and petitioned the panel asking the court to stop the processing, claiming that he was been persecuted for wishing to succeed his boss.
The drama took a new twist as the security post which shared the same fence with the golf course was pulled down on Sunday.
In reactions to the demolition, a senior member of one of the agencies who conducted the exercise, asked to remain anonymous, as he stated the security post was taken down because the former deputy governor had lost his privilege following his impeachment.
He said, “I have seen some online reports linking my ministry to the demolition of the former deputy governor’s security and I can tell you it had nothing to do with my ministry.”
