Experts warn climate change inaction could cost Lagos $25bn

Mrs.Titilayo Oshodi, the Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Climate Change and Circular Economy, has said if climate change is not addressed in the country, Nigeria may lose billions of its economy to climate change impact soon.

According to the news gathered, he revealed this at the 36th edition of platform Nigeria.

Oshodi cited a report that inaction may also cause Lagos State an estimate of $22 to $25bn in economic losses due to the effects of climate change on keys sectors, such as agriculture and tourism.

“If climate change is not addressed quickly in the country, Nigeria will face major economic losses that will run into billions of naira soon. The inaction could cost Lagos State an estimated $22 to $25bn due to the adverse effects of climate change on key sectors such as agriculture and tourism.

“The financial implications of inaction are dire and could severely impact our economy,” she noted.

Meanwhile, she also highlighted potential economic opportunities if Nigeria leveraged its inherent resources and invested in sectors like agriculture, solar energy, and green manufacturing.
