At the Federal High Court in Abuja, Salaudeen Adedoyin, the father of Oluwatobi Adedoyin, testified that he did not authorize the removal of his son’s kidney by the management of Abuja-based Alliance Hospital and Services Limited.
Wakadaily discovered that, Adedoyin provided his account during the trial of four hospital staff members – Dr. Christopher Otabor, Emmanuel Olorunlaye, Chikaodili Ugochukwu, and Dr. Aremu Abayomi – who are facing 11 charges related to illegal organ harvesting.
The four individuals were brought to court by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons for their involvement in the unlawful organ harvesting of Yahaya Musa.
Following an investigation by the newspaper into unethical medical practices in Abuja and Nasarawa State, Adedoyin testified under the questioning of prosecution counsel Hassan Dahiru. He recalled his initial encounter with the defendants at the office of the Commissioner of Police at the FCT Command Headquarters.
Adedoyin stated that the Commissioner of Police had questioned him about his awareness of the operation performed on his son, to which he responded negatively. Additionally, the CP inquired about whether the hospital had obtained permission from any family member of the child and if they could produce that member, to which they were unable to provide a satisfactory answer.
“He (Dr Otabor) told me that someone can live with one kidney for the rest of their lives. I said I gave birth to him with two kidneys and I wanted it to be preserved that way. I said I want justice for the boy,” Adedoyin testified.
During cross-examination, Salaudeen revealed that his son admitted to not reading the contents of the affidavits and consent form he signed, which stated that he was 18 years old and willing to donate
his kidney to his uncle, Samson Egbuson. The case has been postponed until May 9, 2024.
