FCT Minister, Wike seizes 69 vehicles amid rising insecurity

In a bid to combat insecurity in Abuja, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike has impounded 69 vehicles for various offences various offences ranging from wrongful parking to rickety vehicles and failure to use number plates.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the Minister impounded the vehicles combined with the Security Task Force at different locations in Abuja’s federal capital.

Abdulatef Bello, Director of the FCT Directorate of Road Traffic Service (DRTS), said that the seizures were in continuation of operations to clean the city of illegal operators of commercial vehicles.

He said that three of the commercial vehicle operators, who were alleged to be members of the “one-chance” syndicate were arrested during the exercise and would be handed over to the Police for prosecution.

The Director of the FCT Department of Development Control, Mukhtar Galadima, described indiscipline as a major contributor to the increased rate of the “one-chance” operations in the city, adding that the administration will continue to make use of the 40 taxi ranks provided by the FCTA in the city centre.
