In honor of President Bola Tinubu’s first year in office, the Health and Human Services Secretariat of the Federal Capital Territory Administration has introduced a program providing free antenatal care and health insurance for pregnant women for a year.

The initiative, known as the ‘Renewed Hope Free Medical Outreach’, is aimed at assisting impoverished residents in rural areas of Abuja.

Dr Adedolapo Fasawe, the Mandate Secretary of the FCTA’s Health Services and Environment Secretariat, announced the program on Monday.

She emphasized the importance of ensuring that the program benefits those in need and warned against any attempts by privileged individuals to exploit the initiative.

Fasawe also mentioned that the outreach will include free eye, dental, and other health services, as well as minor surgical procedures.

She mentioned, “We are going to be giving free medical care, eye care, provide minor surgery and dental care. Pregnant women and their children will get free insurance for one year. Let not the privileged people deny the less privileged people.

“Let those who can afford the care allow the poor to get the free care. We don’t want chairman’s candidates, we want the poorest of the poor. Register all pregnant women for free antenatal.”

Dr. Babagana Adams, the Permanent Secretary, encouraged council officials to promote the services and encourage widespread participation, while emphasizing the importance of inclusivity and warning against discrimination.

Additionally, Alhaji Haruna Jibrin, the Gomo of Kuje, expressed gratitude to the FCTA for the initiative and offered his full backing.
