Fire guts popular Soprom Hotel in Onitsha

The Sopurum Hotel in the Nkwelle neighborhood of the commercial metropolis of Onitsha, Anambra State, was completely destroyed by fire, consuming a sizable portion of the building.

Wakadaily gathered that the incident started at about 4:30 am on Monday, although the cause of the fire is still unknown as of time of this report.

The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, who confirmed the incident on Monday in Onitsha said the situation is under control.

“The situation is under control. The fire started around 4:30 am on Monday and when we got the information, our men were quickly mobilised to the scene and they condoned off the area to avoid any case of vandalism.

“No loss of life and the men of the fire service are on the ground controlling the situation and managing the fire,” Ikenga added.
