The Kwara State Firefighters on Friday, stopped a crowd of villagers from draining 33,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit, (petrol),in a truck which fell along passa village on the Ilorin Ogbomoso Expressway.
It was said that the truck, with number plate SAP 920 YK reportedly spilt its content on the road, at Passa village near Eyenkorin along Oko Olowo in the Asa Local Government Area of the state when some villagers organized an attempt to scoop its content.
As claimed by Hassan Adekunle, the Head of Media and Publicity, Kwara State Fire Service, in agreement with officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and the police prevented the villagers from scooping the fuel.
He said, “On Friday, April 19, 2024, at 12:33 hours, the Kwara State Fire Service swiftly responded to a distress call reporting a tanker spill at Passa, Eyenkorin expressway along Oko Olowo, Asa Local Government. The tanker involved had the vehicle registration number SAP 920 YK.
“Fortunately, thanks to the timely intervention of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and the Nigeria Police, alongside the Fire Service, the situation was brought under control.
“Through coordinated efforts and cooperation, the petrol was safely transferred to another empty tanker, while security personnel remained vigilant at the scene.”
Hassan stated that the Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Falade John, expressed gratitude to the NSCDC and the Nigeria Police for their support in enabling the Fire Service to carry out their duty effectively and without hindrance.
