According to the French government, there have been absolutely no discussions between France and Nigeria about setting up military facilities there.

The head of communication at the French Embassy in Nigeria, Onyinye Madu, stated that there were no such plans or conversations to create any military facility in the nation during an interview with newsmen in Abuja yesterday.

President Bola Tinubu has received advice from a number of distinguished northern leaders and civil society organizations (CSOs) not to permit the US and France to move their military installations to Nigeria.

Madu said, “The French Embassy in Nigeria would like to point out that contrary to the claims made in the open letter quoted in the article, no discussions have taken place or are planned between France and Nigeria regarding the establishment of military bases.”

Additionally, the federal government made it clear on Monday that no negotiations with other nations had taken place regarding the installation of foreign military bases in Nigeria.

Mohammed Idris, the minister of information and national orientation, clarified this in a statement he issued on Monday.
