The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, has issued a seven-day nationwide strike notice, scheduled to begin August 2, 2023.
The nationwide strike is to seek reversal of fuel pump price hike and other policies by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s government.
Recall that Tinubu administration earlier dragged the organised labour to court earlier in June to prevent a nationwide strike following the initial removal of fuel subsidy.
Even as court had barred NLC from going on strike, Wakadaily learnt that the congress could not fold its arms while Nigerians are suffering.
The national treasurer of the NLC, Hakeem Ambali, said, “Yes. We issued a seven-day ultimatum to the Federal Government to conclude all negotiations with labour or face industrial action yesterday by the Central Working Committee.”
The congress’s spokesperson, Mr. Ben Upah, also confirmed the development.
He said, “Yes, the nationwide strike will commence on 2 August 2023. We will soon issue a communique to that effect”.
