Nollywood actress and movie producer, Funke Akindele breaks her own record as her new movie becomes the first Nigeria movie to gross N 1 billion.
Funke Akindele’s new movie, ‘A Tribe Called Judah’, has become the first Nollywood film to surpass N1 billion at the box office.
The movie which was released three weeks ago has earned N1 billion and counting.
FilmHouse Group CEO, Kene Okwuosa, who announced the historical feat in a statement on Thursday, noted that the world is witnessing a golden era for Nigerian cinema.
He stated, “Akindele’s film has not only captivated audiences but has also proven the resilience of Nigerian cinema in the face of global streaming giants like Netflix and Prime Video”.
A Tribe Called Judah’ became the first Nollywood movie to gross over N113 million in its opening weekend after it was released on December 15 2023, in cinemas which is another grandbreaking events.
The movie prime was the talk of town hosting glamorous celebrities from all field of entertainment and Funke dedicated the movie to her late mother.
Recall that Funke’s ‘Battle on Buka Street’ grossed N650 million at the box office in 2022 the actress and producer has yet again broken her own record.
