Mama Ena Maud Alabi, the mother of Kwara State’s deputy governor, has passed away.
The matriarch of the Alabi family, a Nigerian by marriage and naturalization and a Jamaican by birth, passed away early on Friday morning at the age of 98.
She served God and humanity for decades as a health worker and caretaker until retiring as a senior matron at Maternity (Amilegbe) Ilorin in 1980.
Meanwhile, Mama Ena was a humanist par excellence who used her skills and extensive network to serve God and her community, according to a condolence statement sent by the state governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
The statement signed by the governor’s chief press secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, added: “On behalf of the AbdulRazaqs, the government and people of Kwara State, the Governor sends his heartfelt condolences to the Deputy Governor and his siblings on this huge loss of a faithful mother.”
The governor prayed to God for her soul to rest and for strength and unity to remain among the family both during and after the grieving process.
Additionally, in his message, Alh. Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, the Emir of Ilorin, expressed his condolences to Mr. Kayode Alabi, the deputy governor of the state, on the passing of his mother.
While describing the incident as distressing, Sulu-Gambari advised the deputy governor and his siblings to take comfort in the knowledge that Mama led an exceptional life deserving of recognition, admiration, and appreciation.
The condolence message from the Emir was included in a statement that Mallam Abdulazeez Arowona, his spokesperson, signed.
The deceased was characterized by the Emir as the epitome of motherhood and tranquility.
He reassured the deputy governor that his family was in his thoughts and prayers during this fortunate time of loss.
He beseeched God to provide peace to Madam Ena Alabi’s soul and solace to her surviving family members.
