Gunmen kill three police officers, two others in Enugu

Some unidentified gunmen reportedly killed five persons including three police officers and kidnapped one person on Wednesday night in Enugu State.

Wakadaily learnt that the incident happened at New Haven area of the Enugu North Local Government Area of the state capital, on Wednesday around 10:30 pm in front of St. Francis Supermarket at Block Bus stop.

The police spokesman Daniel Ndukwe who confirmed the incident said that the gunmen operated in a Lexus jeep and attacked a moving police patrol van.

“Intensive manhunt operation is ongoing to fish out the unknown assailants who, operating in a Lexus Jeep, suddenly opened fire on a moving Police patrol van on duty, along Chime Avenue, New Haven, Enugu, on 7 September, 2022 at about 10 pm.

The attack, he said, led “to three of the Operatives sustaining severe gunshot wounds and later confirmed dead at the hospital. The bodies of the victims have been deposited at a mortuary,” he said.
