Gunmen kill three policemen, five vigilantes in Kogi 

Suspected gunmen on Saturday killed three police officers and five vigilantes in an ambush in Ajaokuta Local Government Area of Kogi State.

According to Punch the residents had reported at the Divisional of Police Headquarters that some people were using their farms for criminal activities. The DPO immediately mobilised his men and some vigilantes with a view to repelling the impending attack.

“Unknown to them, the hoodlums had laid ambush for them and opened fire on sighting the security personnel.

The Kogi State Security Adviser, Commander Jerry Omadara, who confirmed the incident said the three police officers and five members of local vigilantes were killed in an ambush on Saturday.

Omadara said, “They were, however, ambushed and in the process, eight of them were killed including three police officers and five members of the local vigilantes.”

He stated that their corpses had been deposited at the Federal Medical Centre, Lokoja.
