House help arrested for selling boss’ baby for N800,000 in Lagos

Nigerian police has arrested a house help who sold her boss’ baby for the sum of N800,000 in the Shomolu area of Lagos State.

An X user, Mide-Bomaye, in a now deleted tweets, had raised an alarm that a maid identified as Ruth Okezie, who was hired through an agency absconded with the baby.

The user said Ruth absconded with the infant from the home in Shomolu around 2am on Saturday.

When apprehended, the maid confessed to selling the baby for N800,000, effort to arrest the buyer is still ungoing.

Giving updates on the baby, the X user wrote: “Good news Twitter fam! The baby has been found. Munachimso has been found!

“She has been reunited with her parents in perfect health! Glory to God forever! Thank you so much Twitter fam for coming through with your retweets! God bless y’all!”

The Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, who also confirmed the incident said the baby was rescued by the police after she was abandoned in Alade Market in the Shomolu area of the state.

He said: “Due to intense manhunt and pressure from the police, the buyer in the early hours of today abandoned the baby in Alade Market, Shomolu. Baby was promptly rescued by the police.

Efforts are still on to apprehend the buyer who is currently on the run.”
