How wedding party saved villagers from Morocco earthquake

A wedding ceremony saved the people of a Morocco village during the terrible earthquake that struck a Moroccan town on Friday and destroyed their stone and mud-brick houses.

The marriage of Habiba Ajdir, 22-year-old, and apple farmer Mohammed Boudad, 30-year-old, were set to hold on Saturday in Kettou, but by custom the bride’s family hosted a party the night before the wedding.

They were saved because the earthquake happened while they were enjoying traditional music in an outdoor courtyard.

Nearly four days after the earthquake destroyed their belongings, Boudad stood beside his wife on Tuesday and still wearing their wedding clothes. He said the catastrophe had made him fearful for her.

He said, “We wanted to celebrate. Then the quake hit. I didn’t know whether to worry about her village or mine”.
