Former Military Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon, has debunked rumours circulating on social media that he is dead.

Gowon in a phone conversation on Monday evening with Vanguard, confirmed that he is alive.

This follows speculation on social media on Monday night, that Gowon has passed away at the age of 89.

However, the Head of State said “I am still around and well. I am not in a hurry”.

Yakubu Gowon ruled Nigeria from 1966 to 1975. During his administration, he created the first 12 states in Nigeria.
