Kemi Nandap, the Comptroller-General of Immigration, has ordered all employees stationed at the Nigeria-Niger border to return to work.
In a statement released on Thursday in Abuja by Mr. Kenneth Kure, the Acting Service Public Relations Officer, Nandap issued the directive.
The directive comes after a previous one issued by the Federal Government restoring the borders between the two nations, which had been closed in accordance with an ECOWAS resolution.
Following the coup that resulted in the removal of President Mahmed Bazoum, the ECOWAS imposed sanctions on the Niger Republic, including the closing of air and land borders.
President Bola Tinubu did, however, order the opening of Nigeria’s air and land borders with the Republic of Niger on Wednesday. He also gave the go-ahead to immediately lift other sanctions against the nation.
In a statement issued by his Special Advisor on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, it was stated that President Tinubu had also approved the easing of financial and economic sanctions against the Republic of Guinea.
As a result, the CGI gave all Comptrollers positioned at States and Border Commands along the Nigeria-Nigeria border instructions to immediately comply and remove all limitations on human mobility.
In addition to maintaining the integrity and security of Nigeria’s borders, the CGI guaranteed that the service would continue to enable secure and orderly border crossings.
