Tech company, Meta, has officially launched its own micro-blogging app, Threads on Wednesday night.

Mark Zuckerberg’s new platform is for posting short text updates and replying to those from others. Threads allows users to post up to 500 characters, and has many features similar to Twitter.

Threads will ultimately compete with Twitter, a micro-blogging app, due to the design of its service.

Twenty million users already downloads and signed up for the Meta’s newly launched Instagram Threads app on it first few hours.

The company chief Mark Zuckerberg earlier said: “keeping the platform “friendly… will ultimately be the key to its success”.

But Elon Musk responded: “It is infinitely preferable to be attacked by strangers on Twitter, than indulge in the false happiness of hide-the-pain Instagram.”

When asked on Threads whether the app will be “bigger than Twitter”, Mr Zuckerberg said: “It’ll take some time, but I think there should be a public conversations app with 1 billion+ people on it.

“Twitter has had the opportunity to do this but hasn’t nailed it. Hopefully we will.”

Threads will not be available for users in  European Union countries due to data privacy regulations.
