Ire‐Ikari market sealed off by LAWMA over poor sanitation

Ire-Ikari Market, in Isolo Area of Lagos was sealed of by the Lagos Waste Management Authority due to poor environmental sanitation.

The Senior Special  Assitant to the Lagos State Governor on Media took to his X handle and revealed that, “The Lagos Waste Management Authority Enforcement team today sealed Ire-Akari market, Isolo, for poor environmental sanitation conditions and the use of cart pushers in violation of the state’s environmental laws.”

While at it, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Ministry for Environment, Mr. Kunkle Adeshina on Thursday 15th  February 2024, in a post on X, disclosed that the Ministry alongside the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps brought down illegal structures around Aguda Market, Coker Aguda Local Council Development Area.

Attaching photos to his claim, he also wrote “Operatives of Monitoring Enforcement and Compliance dept from MOE&WR In a joint operation Thursday with LAGESC/KAI officials removed all d Illegal structures erected on the road beside Aguda Market Complex in Coker Aguda LCDA and d drainage channel behind d market.”

Mrs. Folashade Kadiri, the Director of Public Affairs at LAWMA, explained that the decision to close the markets was necessary in order to address environmental health issues.
