The Rivers State governor, Siminalayi Fubara has insisted that he has not committed any offence to warrant impeachment by the state House of Assembly.
The embattled Governor stated this on Monday which addressing his supporters at the Assembly Complex, few minutes after the House members, led by their Speaker, Martin Amaewhule, convened to begin the impeachment process against him.
Fubara said: “Let them come out and tell Rivers people the offence I have committed to warrant any impeachment.
“Let me assure the people of Rivers that I will continue to ensure that you get the dividends of democracy. At the appropriate time I will address the press.”
He added that security forces shot directly at him.
According to him, “We woke up this morning with very troubling news. We have gone to the assembly to see what is happening for myself.
“On my way there, I was shot at directly by the OC operation but it doesn’t matter. Somebody will die one way or the other. You die either inside your house or on the road.
“If I’m impeached, I won’t be last to be impeached”, Siminalayi Fubara added.
