Mother of super star Jay-Z, Gloria Cater ties the knots with her longtime lesbian partner Roxanne Wilshire, in New York City on Sunday night.
The mother of four started dating Wilshire around 2018, and the couple has finally said “I do” to spending the rest of their lives together.
Gloria Cater is the CEO of the Shawn Cater Foundation which was founded with her son Jay-Z in 2002, it provides financial assistance to high schoolers and undergraduate students who have shown academic potential but lack the necessary financials to pursue higher education.
Recall that Jay-Z on his 2017 album titled ‘Smile’ opened up about his mother being a lesbian and hiding in the closet to avoid what the society will say.
“Mama had four kids, but she’s a lesbian/Had to pretend so long that she’s a thespian/Had to hide in the closet, so she medicate/Society shame and the pain was too much to take,”.
“Cried tears of joy when you fell in love/Don’t matter to me if it’s a him or her/I just wanna see you smile through all the hate/Marie Antoinette, baby, let ’em eat cake.” The raper stated in his the song lyrics.
Lots of stars were in attendance, TMZ reported that Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland, Tina Knowles-Lawson, Tyler Perry, and Robin Roberts and many others were present in the star-studded wedding, which took place in Tribeca and subsequent reception that sources said didn’t conclude until around 1 a.m.
In an interview with David Letterman on the Netflix series My Next Guest Needs No Introduction, Jay-Z confirmed that he shed tears of joy when he discovered that his mother was in love and was very happy that she is finally free to live her life.
“Imagine having to live your life as someone else and you think you’re protecting your kids,” he explained.
“For her to sit in front of me and tell me ‘I think I love someone,’ I really cried…I cried because I was so happy for her that she was free.
