Kaduna Plans To Vaccinate 2.8 Million Children Against Polio

The Kaduna State Primary Health Care Development Agency has announced plans to target over 2.8 million children for the upcoming second round of polio outbreak response immunisation.

During an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria, the agency’s Deputy Director, Hamza Ibrahim-Hamza, disclosed that the vaccination campaign is scheduled to take place in 23 local government areas across the state from April 20 to April 23.

With hopes of achieving an impressive 85 per cent compliance rate, the state is actively working towards ensuring the success of this crucial public health initiative.

He noted, “The vaccination will include house-to-house and in hospitals, and we will supervise 1,168 health facilities so that all the communities will benefit, especially children less than one year.”

“We are commencing the exercise on Saturday and hope to achieve total compliance by the parents and caregivers.

” We want to ensure that children from age 0-five years are fully immunised.”

Ibrahim-Hamza mentioned that the agency enlisted the help of traditional and religious leaders in locating children under the age of one. He also stated that two health workers would be deployed to difficult-to-reach regions to ensure adequate coverage.

Ibrahim and Hamza passionately called upon parents, guardians, and caregivers to prioritize their children’s health by actively participating in the upcoming immunization campaign and ensuring they receive regular vaccinations at healthcare facilities located nearby.

They stressed the critical role of preventative measures in safeguarding children’s well-being and encouraged proactive involvement in promoting a healthier future for the younger generation.
