Kano governor Yusuf rejects Tribunal judgement, heads to Appeal Court

The Kano State governor, Abba Yusuf has rejected the judgement of the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal which sacked him as governor and declared his opponent the winner.

Wakadaily reports that tribunal on Wednesday sacked candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, and declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress Nasiru Gawuna, winner of the governorship poll.

The Presiding Judge, Justice Oluyemi Akintan Osadabey said the margin of votes scored by the NNPP was not enough to give Governor Yusuf victory, saying some of the votes credited to him (Yusus) were invalid.

Despite the ruling, the governor will remain in office until the appeal court and possibly the supreme court gives a final ruling on the matter.

Speaking shortly after the judgment, Mr Abba Yusuf described the tribunal’s verdict as “unfair” and “a miscarriage of justice”.

“I call on all the good people of Kano State to be calm and remain law abiding. We will appeal the judgement and we are sure justice will be done.

“People should not take the law into their own hands. Security agents have already been directed to ensure the full protection of the lives and properties of innocent citizens across the State.

“Let our people be reassured that we will do everything possible to retain this widely acclaimed mandate”, he added.
