King Charles III returns to London to address nation in mourning 

The new head of state, King Charles III returned to London prepared to address his mourning subjects on the first full day of his new reign, the period of royal mourning will be observed from Friday until seven days after the Queen’s funeral.

Britain’s new King has described the death of the Queen, who he called his “beloved Mother”, as the “greatest sadness” for his family.

King Charles III in a written statement said “The death of my beloved Mother, Her Majesty The Queen, is a moment of the greatest sadness for me and all members of my family.

“We mourn profoundly the passing of a cherished Sovereign and a much-loved Mother. I know her loss will be deeply felt throughout the country, the Realms and the Commonwealth, and by countless people around the world.

“During this period of mourning and change, my family and I will be comforted and sustained by our knowledge of the respect and deep affection in which The Queen was so widely held.”

Queen Elizabeth II’s death was announced by Buckingham Palace on Thursday evening, said “The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon. The King and the Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow.”

The new head of state, Charles, is expected to speak to the nation and lead the tributes to his beloved mother on Friday.
