Kwara govt commits to giving corps member adequate security and welfare

Governor of Kwara State AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq gave youth corps members stationed in the state his word yesterday that their security and welfare will be given the utmost importance.

This follows as Mr. Onifade Olaoluwa, the state coordinator for the National Youth Service Corps, praised the governor for providing 1,000 mattresses for the program’s camp and a meal subsidy for corps participants.

“I want to express our profound gratitude to Governor AbdulRahaman AbdulRazaq for his assistance and support for NYSC. The support is highly commendable and worthy of emulation by all leaders, “ the NYSC coordinator said.

During the swearing-in of 2024 Batch ‘A’, Stream II of corps members assigned to the state at Yikpata Orientation Camp in the Edu local government area of the state, the governor and the NYSC coordinator addressed corp members.

A total of 2,233 corps members registered at the camp received the oath of office by the state’s chief judge, Justice Biodun Adebara, who was represented by Justice Tauhid Umar.

Speaking to the corps members, Governor AbdulRazaq stated that the management of NYSC has received sufficient support and help from his administration in carrying out all of the organization’s programs throughout the state.

Represented by the senior adviser/ counselor, Alh Saadu Salahu, the governor recalled that: “This time in 2019, this facility was an eyesore. We have greatly improved the facility. As part of the state government’s efforts to make life more conducive and ensure adequate security on camp, our administration has recently approved and commenced the perimeter fencing of the orientation camp.

“I wish to further pledge, on behalf of the government and the good people of Kwara State, our continuous support to the welfare and security of corps members currently serving and newly deployed to Kwara State for national service.”

In keeping with the NYSC theme of “Service and Humility,” he encouraged the corps members to always conduct themselves as honorable representatives of their individual families and the program.

The governor assigned them the task of deliberately participating in all camp activities, including lectures, physical training, paramilitary drills, and citizenship and leadership development.

“Dear corps members, you are to adopt a conscientious approach to the various activities of the orientation course in order to be able to face the numerous challenges of the assignments ahead. You should not allow anything to affect your commitment to achieve the expected qualities of future leaders, which the NYSC scheme is designed to prepare you for.

“I urge you to justify the confidence reposed in you as leaders of this great nation, by making patriotism discipline, good conduct, honesty and hard-work your watchwords, throughout the duration of the course and thereafter,” he added.

Hajiya Nafisat Buge, the commissioner for youth development, reaffirmed Governor AbdulRazaq’s statement in her remarks, telling the corps members that their security and well-being “remain top priorities of the state government.”
