Members of Nigeria Labour Congress and other related unions took out to the streets all over the country protesting over the high cost of living, inflation, insecurity and hardship in the country.
Following the removal of fuel subsidy, the NLC and the Trade Union Congress had sent the Federal Government a notice of a 14-day nationwide strike on February 8. This was in response to the Federal Government’s failure to carry out the agreements struck on October 2nd 2023.
In an act to promote peaceful coexistence with the public during and after the protests, the Nigeria Police Command in various states engaging in the protest has also given protection support to those expressing their grievances through the peaceful protest as procalimed by NLC National body.
The two-day nationwide protest is planned for today, Tuesday, February 27, and will also continue tomorrow Wednesday, February 28, in response to the FG’s inability to keep its word following Labour’s ultimatum.
Joe Ajaero, the president of the NLC, had threatened to shut down the economy completely if any of his protesting members were attacked on throughout the days of the exercise.
