Desmond Elliot, a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly who represents the Surulere Constituency, has stated that the House will investigate the claims of financial fraud made against Mr. John Ogundare, the chairman of the Eti-Osa East Local Council Development Area.
In a declaration to the Assembly on Monday, some Eti-Osa LCDA citizens refuted accusations that Ogundare had misappropriated funds, according to the statement.
The News Agency of Nigeria revealed last week that some LCDA citizens protested at the Assembly compound on Thursday over Ogundare’s alleged N1.9bn embezzlement. They demanded that the head of the council be suspended.
Adekunle Odunuga, the All Progressives Congress Chairman in the Eti-Osa East LCDA and the residents’ spokesperson, denied the allegations made by the previous protestors at a counter-protest on Monday.
“We are here to counter their protest. We do not even know who these people are. They are definitely not residents of Eti-Osa East. Their allegations are baseless and unfounded,” Odunuga was quoted as saying.
After taking over as Chairman, Ogundare has been extremely diligent, according to Apostle Olusoji Fabule, another LCDA resident.
“I grew up in Eti-Osa local government knowing that Eti-Osa is the least developed area within our four LCDAs, but since Ogundare came in, there have been lots of development,” he said
On behalf of Speaker Mudashiru Obasa, Elliot welcomed the demonstrators and said that the legislators would hear from both sides of the dispute.
Elliot approached the demonstrators with his colleague Rasheed Shabi at his side and said, “Some people came here last week and we addressed them.” You came today, and we gave you our full attention. I promise that the plenary will address your concern. It will be properly addressed.
