Regarding the 2024/2025 Academic Calendar, stakeholders in education in the state’s basic and secondary schools have met with the Lagos State Office of Education Quality Assurance.

In a statement released on Monday, OEQA spokesperson Adepeju Adeyemi stated that the purpose of the stakeholders’ involvement was to guarantee that private and public school operators agreed on matters pertaining to the academic calendar.

Speaking to attendees at the stakeholders’ engagement at the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board premises in Maryland, Abayomi Abolaji, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, praised the collaboration that has long existed between the state government and school owners.

In order to promote smooth and high-quality learning for the 2024–2025 academic year, Fabambi Falayi, Director of OEQA’s Private Education Special Programs, stated during her presentation that the stakeholders were expected to brainstorm on the adoption of a new Unified Lagos State School Calendar.

Falayi said, “The essence of this engagement is to ensure that all schools below the tertiary level in the state are on the same page with respect to the school academic calendar. She took the participants through the plenary session and guided the groups in drafting a calendar each.”

The state now has 5,622 registered private primary and secondary schools, up from 5,423 in January when OEQA issued provisional clearance letters to 199 new private school owners.
