On Thursday, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, advised drivers on the state’s roadways to put safety first at all times.
In a statement released in Lagos, Osiyemi also urged motorists to respect the 80 kph speed limit, especially when driving across the recently renovated Third Mainland Bridge.
“We should recognise the pivotal role of cooperation in safeguarding lives, and as such, compliance not only ensures personal safety but also protects other road users,” he said.
The state government’s pledge to enforce the speed limit was reiterated by the commissioner.
By making it their responsibility to remind drivers to adhere to the suggested speed limits, he asked passengers to actively contribute to the development of a culture of safety.
“Should any driver persist in flouting these essential guidelines, passengers are encouraged to promptly report such instances to the nearest Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) outpost.
“Commuters are urged to report speeding drivers to the following hotlines: 09020009000, 09020004000,” Osiyemi said.
Following a horrific accident on the Third Mainland Bridge on Wednesday that sent two passengers plunging into the Lagoon, the commissioner has issued an appeal to road users.
