Linda Ikeji, a prominent Nigerian media personality and blogger, has released a statement clarifying the recent change of name of her son, Jayce.
Linda Ikeji faced intense criticism on Tuesday after she referred to her son, Jayce, using her surname in a social media post. The controversy arose when she shared a photo of Jayce and his cousin Ryan, both six years old, on vacation. While the post was meant to be a heartwarming moment, fans quickly pointed out that Linda had used her last name in the caption, sparking a heated debate about her decision to give her son her surname. The backlash was swift, with many fans expressing their disapproval and disappointment.
Linda Ikeji has addressed the controversy surrounding her son’s surname via her Instagram story. She clarified that Jayce has always been an Ikeji since birth and that she didn’t change his surname. She wondered if people thought she had the time or patience to deal with changing names. Linda emphasized that when Jayce grows up, he can decide for himself whether to retain the Ikeji surname or not. She is essentially saying that the decision lies with him, and she is not forcing her surname on him.
“Just to be clear.
I’ve never ever had to change my son’s surname. He’s been an Ikeji right from when he was born! Where do I have the time or patience to be changing names? Changing it and keeping his surname (Ikeji) will be up to him when he ages.
Food for my Junior colleagues”.
Recall that earlier in 2018, Linda Ikeji had a son, Jayce, with billionaire businessman Sholaye Jeremi, whom she dated on and off for 3 years before they broke up in 2017.
Sholaye has not been involved in their son’s life, leading to speculation that he is a deadbeat father. In 2021, Linda changed her son’s surname from Jeremi to Ikeji. There have also been rumors and controversies surrounding Linda’s personal life, including a rumored pregnancy in 2022 (which was untrue) and a public feud with Caroline Hutchins, who blamed Linda for her divorce (which Linda denied).
It’s important to note that there may be multiple perspectives and truths in these situations, and it’s always a good idea to approach these kinds of stories with nuance and understanding.
