Movie Review: Afamefuna
kayode Kasum who is one of the greatest Filmmakers in Nigeria today has made a vow that he won’t let Nigerians down when it comes to delivering amazing Movies.
Afamefuna a film starring A List Cast like Stan Nze, Kanayo O. kanayo, Alex Ekubo and other amazing People revolves around the popular Apprenticeship method that exist mainly in the Igbo land , what we all might know as “Nwa Boi”, And this movie is somewhat a murder mystery even tho it dives deeply into the roots of the Igbo culture and the Igbo apprenticeship system in business.
I would say the story was well developed and did not lack anything at all, the storyline felt so concrete and relatable, I don’t know if it’s because I’ve heard many stories of this way of apprenticeship , but the story was a masterpiece, the exposition came at the right time, and the movie consistently gave us a reason to fill the aura of suspense around us.The movie was educative too and exposed a lot of beautiful things in the Igbo culture which is remarkable. The story also touches real life issues like brotherhood, love, deceit and other amazing values such as loyalty and integrity, it was just so amazing.
The cast of the movie did an amazing job in bringing their characters to life, sincerely speaking I never knew Alex Ekubo had such emotional depth , it was really awesome seeing him on this movie and Stan Nze never fails to deliver same as Kanayo O. Kanayo, But guys Segun Arinze went beyond the bar set Luke the way he spoke Igbo fluently was beautiful, everyone did an amazing job including their younger versions in the movie, so beautiful.
The script was just so amazing, so detailed and remarkable.
The Igbo spoken and the subtitles like were so perfect, yes perfect.
These movie is an emotional roller coaster and an embodiment of nostalgia, whatever Kayode Kasum was trying to achieve in this movie ,he actually did because this movie is the Real Deal.
Thank you for blessing our screens with something so beautiful. This movie got nominated for the AMVCA awards 2024 which was well earned I hope they win in whatever category they are in.
I’d sincerely give this movie a Solid 8/10
