The Investigation and Enforcement Directorate of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control has successfully apprehended a fraudulent cosmetics producer operating at the Balogun Trade Fair Gate within the Trade Fair Complex in Lagos State.
This significant development was brought to light by NAFDAC through its official communication channels on Monday, where it was revealed that the suspect in question is Mr. Pius Effiong Eyoh, the proprietor of Pasco Global Limited.
Eyoh stands accused of engaging in the illicit activities of manufacturing, packaging, distributing, and selling a wide array of substandard and counterfeit cosmetic products.
Among the fraudulent items uncovered during the investigation were deceptive products such as Skin Balance, Perfect Knuckle, Organic Peel Therapy, and Golden Face Triple Action Concentrated Perfect Skin.
Shockingly, Eyoh was discovered in the act of processing and packaging these deceptive cosmetic goods using false labeling that bore inscriptions in French and a disclosed address in Cameroon.
This reprehensible behavior not only poses a serious threat to consumer health and safety but also undermines the integrity of the cosmetics industry at large.
“The agency’s intervention led to the sealing of the illegal manufacturing premises, Eyoh’s arrest, and the scheduling of his substandard products for destruction,” it mentioned.
WAKADAILY detailed how, on the previous Thursday, agents of the organization conducted raids on well-known supermarkets in Abuja, such as Sahad Stores and H-Medix in Wuse 2 and Gwarinpa, discovering fake products.
The task force also focused on markets in Garki, Wuse, Utako, Kugbo, Nyanya, and Mararaba, confiscating fake cosmetics and medications during the operations.
“Counterfeit Nivea products, cosmetics, Jik bleach, Harpic toilet cleaner, and Airwick room freshener were all confiscated.
The total value of the seized goods amounted to N50m, with fake Nivea products alone valued at N45m”, NAFDAC disclosed.
