NAFDAC Confiscates N107 Million Illegal Drugs At Markets And Motor Parks In Abuja

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control carried out a significant campaign against the illegal drug trade. They confiscated illicit and unsafe drugs valued at over N107 million from motor parks and markets in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.

The agency explained in a press release that their Investigation & Enforcement/Federal Task Force Directorate, with information from the Department of State Services, conducted operations to curb drug trafficking.

These raids focused on apprehending drug sellers at various locations such as Area 1 Motor Park, Dunamis Market Garki, Zuba Market, Nyanya Motor Park, and Asokoro over a span of two days.

NAFDAC said, “During the raid, the team arrested twenty suspects and confiscated over 50 wares of illegal and dangerous drugs, including Tramadol 225mg, Rohypnol, Diazepam, Cod Amol, aphrodisiacs, and codeine syrups. The estimated street value of the seized drugs is over ₦107 million.”

The operation, coordinated by the Kaduna and Abuja I&E/FTF offices, was part of an ongoing effort to rid public spaces of illegal drug hawking and ensure public safety.

“The arrested individuals are under investigation, and all confiscated products will be destroyed,” the statement noted.

In May, NAFDAC teamed up with the Nigerian Army’s 15 Field Engineering Regiment in Badagry to shut down an unauthorized alcohol production facility in the Badagry region of Lagos State.

NAFDAC reported that the joint operation was aimed at Chinedu Okafor, who was operating an illegal beverage manufacturing setup from his home at No. 24, MTN Road, Badagry.
