The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), said the nation’s airspace remained open to flight operations despite the strike action embarked upon by the Nigerian Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress, over new national minimum wage.
Abdullahi Musa, the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection of NAMA, revealed this in a statement on Tuesday.
He said that contingency arrangements had been put in place for the processing of flight operations in the five major airports in Nigeria, which include Lagos, Kano, Port Harcourt, Abuja and Enugu.
He said, NAMA will continue to provide its services to airline operators in spite of the ongoing strike action, in keeping with the agency’s mandate to provide uninterrupted, safe, efficient, and economic air navigation services in the country.
The statement reads partly, “The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency, hereby, assures the general public and airline operators that the ongoing strike by the Nigerian Labour Congress has not in any way affected the operations of the agency as contingency arrangements have been put in place for the processing of flight operations in the five major airports in Nigeria, which include Lagos, Kano, Port Harcourt, Abuja and Enugu.
“The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency will continue to provide its services to airline operators despite the ongoing strike action, in keeping with the agency’s mandate to provide uninterrupted, safe, efficient, and economic air navigation services in the country.”
However, activities were paralysed at the country’s airports for more than 24 hours, following protests by the Nigeria Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress over disagreement over the new national minimum wage.
