Senegalese-American, Akon has declared Nigerians to be the smartest people on the planet.

The legendary singer dominated the RnB and Hip Hop scene in the 2000s and was also a great influence in the penetration of Afrobeat to the international audience with his collaborations with Nigerian artists.

Akon in a recent interview with a popular music podcast ‘Drinking Champs’, shared stories of his early life living in America, being involved in stealing a car, and how his music career started.

He also talked about Africa in the interview which led to the conversation of Nigerians being the smartest set of people on the continent.

Akon also referred to Nigeria to be similar to New York, stating that even though few bad apples are using this smartness for bad things, it still doesn’t change the fact that Nigerian are super smart.

“This may be debatable but Nigerians are the smartest people on the planet…There’s nobody smarter than the Nigerian.

Of course, there is a few bad apples that came out. They [the bad apples] are extremely smart. But they put their intelligence all in wrong place.

“If they were to gear that towards something more positive or productive… Because the ones that did, there’s more billionaires being made in Nigeria than anywhere in the world.”

Akon also revealed that his favorite food was jollof rice while giving the difference between Nigerian, Senegalese, Ghanaian, and Liberian Jollof Rice.
