Mr. Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s (LP) presidential candidate for the general election of 2023, has tasked President Bola Tinubu with giving primary health delivery services in the nation first priority.

In an interview with reporters on Thursday at the St. Charles Borromeo Specialist Hospital in Onitsha, Anambra State, College of Nursing Sciences, Obi provided the advice.

The recommendation came about as a result of a N10 million donation to the College’s management, which supported the institution’s facility upgrades.

Former aspirant for presidency emphasized that a new Nigeria could only be realized by enhancing vital areas of the nation including health, education, and rescuing individuals from poverty.

In order to counterbalance the cost of any public office holder’s foreign treatment, the former governor of Anambra State further advised the president to forbid the federal government from paying medical bills out of its coffers.

As the governor of Anambra State in 2012, Obi recalled leading the College’s foundation-laying ceremony and praised the administration for its success.

“Nurses are the closest medical personnel to any patient in the hospital because after the doctors diagnose and make prescriptions, nurses are the ones who stay to administer the treatments,” he said, describing the nursing profession as extremely important to health care.

He said that the gift represented his yearly commitment to the college for 2023, which he was unable to fulfill because of the presidential campaigns.

The former candidate for the LP clarified that his sustained backing since resigning as governor was based on his conviction that citizens should not only encourage the expansion of vital national sectors while in office, but also consider such actions as a means of giving back to the society in which they have been favored by God.

The Archbishop of the Onitsha Ecclesiastical Province, His Grace, Most Rev. Valerian Okeke, responded by thanking Obi for the gift and praising him for his unwavering support of the cause of a New Nigeria.

Miss Onyinye Amalu, the president of the college’s students union government, praised Obi and said he is a wonderful inspiration to the kids for moral behavior, patriotism, and resiliency.
