Ogun customs support indigent pupils with educational materials

In other to promote quality education, the Nigeria Customs Service, Ogun 1 Area Command in partnership with a Non-Governmental Organisation, Teach for Nigeria, has provided educational support to 100 primary school pupils from five different schools in the Idiroko axis of Ipokia Local Government Area of the state.

Hammed Oloyede, the Public Relations Officer for Ogun I Area Command revealed this in a statement on Thursday.

Oloyede said that the intervention was a request of the NGO through three of its members; Mrs Akanbi Olutoyosi, Mr Mathew Emmanuel, and Mrs Obot Aniebietabasi, who recently approached and pleaded with the Command to support its ‘Cloth a Child Initiative.’

In other to improve education, the NGO said during the visits of the humanitarian drive to cater for 20 indigent pupils each from five primary schools wearing tattered uniforms to schools.

The schools choosen for the programme include Community Primary School, Igbo Adiguns, Community Primary School, Odan Aje, Ipokia Local Government (School 1 and II Idiroko, and Ipokia Local Government School, Ikolaje.

Oloyede said “The command commended the initiative and considered it a laudable project.

As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility, the command expanded the scope of the initiative by making the proposed pair of uniforms with only socks to a complete set and included writing materials such as books and stationery for the pupils.

“It also added chalks and whiteboard markers for the selected schools to teach the pupils”.

The Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Ahmadu Shuaibu, represented by the Deputy Comptroller Administration, DC Charles Ogunesan congratulated the beneficiaries of the initiative, while Presenting the materials to the pupils at  a ceremony held at IPLG school I and II, Idiroko, on Wednesday.

Shuaibu asvised their parents to show the same kindness  by taking their children’s educational progression seriously and looking after their wellbeing.

He said the children are great blessings from God Almighty, and they must not be taken for granted, he also applauded the NGO for introducing such a great initiative.
