The Ogun State government has affirmed its dedication to enhancing food security within the state by implementing mechanized agriculture.
This commitment was reiterated by the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Bolu Owotomo, during a two-day training session organized for Ogun farmers in partnership with Contec Global Agro LTD and the Ministry of Agriculture as part of the Ogun State Economic Transformation Project.
The training, themed ‘Training for 2024 Planting Season and Distribution of Inputs and Seminar to the farmers’, aimed to equip farmers with the necessary skills and tools to enhance their productivity.
Owotomo further highlighted the various empowerment programs that the state has initiated to support farmers and ensure increased food security.
“Indeed, food security is our top priority in the state, as the administration led by Dapo Abiodun has ordered the massive empowerment of farmers across the state, including women farmers. The state has distributed both crop inputs, herbicides and birds to the farmers, to boost their productivity and make food available for people’s consumption,” he stated.
Mrs. Mosunmola Owo-Odusi, the OGSTEP Project Coordinator, stated that the training was specifically designed to enhance the skill set and proficiency of local farmers in the state.
She mentioned, “As you can see, OGSTEP is an agency of change. It encourages extension officers and farmers and empowers them through training and retraining. It also educates them on new methods to use in their farming productivity and outputs of their food production.”
